Settling down later in week, frost common, some fog
A generally cold weather pattern will dominate the British Isles through this weekend and well into next week. Periods of wind and rain will pass across the country, and there is likely to be some snow - mainly over the hills, but some may fall to low levels at times.

Monday 21/11/16 A chilly northerly pattern across the country as one area of low pressure moves away toward Norway, whilst another system threatens to move in from Biscay. Areas of rain or snow for northern Britain, may locally persist for several hours - possible snow to low levels in Scotland. Generally dry in central areas with some hazy sun. Rain is likely to spread into the south, turning heavy. Temperatures just 4 to 7C.
Tuesday 22/11/16 Low pressure is expected to track north-eastwards across eastern Britain into the North Sea. A cold and unsettled day, with areas of rain, sleet and snow - chiefly over the hills, but some may fall to low levels for northern England & Wales on the western flank of this system. Clusters of wintry showers around coasts in the west & far north. The south may brighten up through the day. Remaining cold, just 3 to 7C.
Wednesday 23/11/16 Pressure should start to build from the north-west by midweek. A cold and frosty night for many places, particularly in the north to start Wednesday. A brighter day with sunshine breaking through for many. A few residual areas of wintry showers are possible, perhaps a more organised trough of rain toward the south-west of Britain for a time. Staying cool, daytime highs 3 to 8C.
Thursday 24/11/16 High pressure is likely to extend across the country, bringing generally quieter conditions. A good amount of sunshine, and dry for many. Risk of a few showers along the south coast. Winds mostly light, but a cool easterly breeze in the south. Frost and fog possible in the morning. Temperatures 5 to 10C.
Friday 25/11/16 High pressure is expected to reside across Britain & Ireland. Fair weather for many places. Rare if any showers, confined to coastal areas. A brisk easterly breeze in the south. Frost and fog likely in north. Some sunshine. Highs 6 to 10C.
Saturday 26/11/16 High pressure is likely to be centred toward the north-west. An easterly breeze for all places may drag in increasing amounts of cloud from the North Sea. Largely dry. Temperatures near average, but cool in the breeze, 6 to 10C.
