Briefly milder, cooler by midweek
A milder weekend ahead, although there will be areas of rain and showers, most widespread by Sunday. Into next week, a west or north-westerly pattern develops, bringing changeable conditions. Pressure may build for a time later in the week.

Monday 17/10/16 Low pressure centred to the north-west, and a front moving away into the North Sea. Any early rain for East Anglia will soon clear. A largely dry and bright day for many places. Showery for Ireland, merging into persistent rain for western Scotland. Scattered showers for many western coasts of Britain, moving increasingly inland. A light breeze from the south-west, strongest in north. Temperatures 12 to 17C, warmest south-east.
Tuesday 18/10/16 Low pressure remains to the north. Various fronts drift across the British Isles from the Atlantic, bringing a few hours of rain or showers to most places, although timing uncertain. Wettest across western hills and mountains. Least rain toward the east, whilst western parts may improve later. Staying mild in the south-east at 17C, but becoming cooler, and a squally westerly wind developing, 11 to 14C in north.
Wednesday 19/10/16 A cool north-westerly pattern as low pressure passes east into the North Sea. Showers may affect many areas, locally frequent around coasts, particularly in the east. Some sunshine. Pressure may build from the west to bring improving conditions to Ireland and south-western Britain. Breezy and feeling cool, highs 11 to 15C.
Thursday 20/10/16 Details uncertain, but pressure may build across the country, bringing dry and bright conditions to many places, although chilly temperatures overnight, with some fog patches. Risk of frequent showery rain in eastern England, plus a brisk northerly breeze. Highs 10 to 15C.
Friday 21/10/16 Confidence low, but high pressure may influence many areas. Dry with some sunshine, but chilly overnight with frost and fog. Risk of showers in the south-east. Rain may return from the west to Ireland. Temperatures by afternoon 11 to 16C.
Saturday 22/10/16 Falling pressure from the west may bring increasingly unsettled conditions to Ireland & western Britain. Eastern regions may hold onto brighter conditions. A south-easterly wind may freshen. Chilly overnight. Daytime highs 11 to 16C.
