A showery week ahead with a risk of thunderstorms, cooler overall

Turning cooler next week as well as showery. The showers heavy at times and the risk of thunder. Uncertainty in the detail and to where the heavier showers will be each day. Temperatures recovering towards the end of the week.

Tuesday 5/5/26
Rather a cloudy morning for many on Tuesday with a northerly airflow affecting the British Isles. Troughs of low pressure will be passing south and these are going to be bringing plenty of cloud. They will be showers as well, some of them heavy and potentially thundery in places. Most of the showers probably affecting more western and southern areas. A cold front in the east will bring more cloud in north-east England and this produces some outbreaks of showery rain too. In between these various areas of showers and rain, it is likely to be drier with broken cloud. Highs at 16C in southern England, just 9C in northern Scotland, 12C in Ireland.

Wednesday 6/5/26
Remaining rather cloudy for many on Wednesday. An area of showery rain north to south through the whole country, some heavy and thundery bursts developing here and there. Probably fewer showers in Ireland and perhaps East Anglia and southeast England. Highs at 8C in northern Scotland to 15C in southern England.
 

Thursday 7/5/26
Low pressure west of Scotland on Thursday. Sunshine and showers for Scotland throughout, heavy in the afternoon and mostly in the west. Further showers in Ireland. Much of England and Wales may start brighter with some sunshine but then heavy showers developing into the afternoon. It may stay dry in the far south. Highs at 10C in northern Scotland, 18C in southeast Enland and widely around 13 to 15C.

Friday 8/5/26
Low pressure west of Scotland again on Friday. Heavy, thundery showers persisting in Scotland and Ireland. Further showers developing in western areas of England and Wales. Further showers for East Anglia. Drier between the two areas. Highs at 14 to 18C.


 

Saturday 9/5/26
Low pressure remains on Saturday. Showers across much of Ireland and the west of the UK. More eastern areas tending to see fewer showers. Highs at 13 to 16C.

Sunday 10/5/26
Low pressure east of the British Isles. Showery again with these turning thundery, most in the north and west. Sunny spells between the showers. Highs at 12 to 15C.
