Improving toward weekend

A changeable start to August as low pressure moves in from the Atlantic. Often windy, with some rain at times, becoming mostly confined to the north-west by the weekend. High pressure may build to give a few dry and warm days by the weekend and early next week.

Thursday 04/08/16
Low pressure centred to the north-east of Britain brings an unsettled day to most areas. Areas of showery rain spreading from west to east, at times merging into more persistent falls in western areas. Some locally heavy bursts. Mostly cloudy, occasional glimpses of sun, best in eastern areas. Blustery south-westerly winds. Temperatures 18 to 22C, but cooler where rain lingers.

Friday 05/08/16
Pressure slowly builds from the south-west, bringing brighter conditions to most places. A few showers are likely in eastern areas, most widespread by afternoon. Sunshine breaking through for many. Lighter westerly winds, some local sea breezes. Top temperatures 18 to 21C north & west, up to 23C south & east.

Saturday 06/08/16
High pressure to the south, whilst low pressure develops over the north Atlantic. Fronts are expected to affect Ireland & Scotland, with rain or drizzle developing. Thickening cloud across western England & Wales, perhaps a spot of rain. Most likely dry with sunshine in the south & east. Highs 18 to 24C, warmest south-east.

Sunday 07/08/16
An active area of low pressure passes to the north of Scotland, bringing a risk of strong to gale force winds to northern Britain. Rain threatens the far north, whilst much of the country may escape dry with sunny spells. Lighter winds in the south. Feeling fresh in the north, 17 to 19C, but warm in south, highs 22 to 25C.

Monday 08/08/16
Detail uncertain. Indications favour pressure building across the country. Many places dry with sunshine. Risk of showery rain toward the north-west. Winds easing, sea breezes. Temperatures 17 to 20C north, up to 23 to 25C south.

Tuesday 09/08/16
High pressure may continue to influence much of the country. Chance of showers in the north, but many places may see another dry and bright day. Warmer in the south, reaching 24 to 26C, perhaps higher.
