Drier later

Issued: 0900hrs Saturday 1st August 2020
Duty forecaster: Alexi Venerus

Mixed initially with showers then rain through midweek. Drier and sunnier weather potentially for all from next weekend.

More mixed and somewhat fresher weather is expected this week with sunny spells but also showers, these more so in the north and west, early on. Heavier, more persistent rain for mainly the north during midweek before a potential area of high pressure moves in at the weekend and into the following week.

Tuesday 04/08/20
Starting dry in eastern and southern regions, before rain moves in from the west affecting northern and central parts of the UK and Ireland through the day. Rain looks to fall heavy with persistent spells across northwest England and southwest Scotland. The south and southeast of England could stay largely dry if not dry altogether and the Northern Isles will see just light rain and drizzle. Brisk southwesterly winds. Highs 17 to 22C.

Wednesday 05/08/20
A series of fronts will continue to drift eastwards calling for rain across most areas of the UK, possibly prolonged spells of rain to some areas, although detail uncertain at this stage. It will gradually clear from the west. The southeast of England could miss much if not all rain. Fresh southwesterly winds. Highs 17 to 24C, warmest southeast away from rain.

Thursday 06/08/20
Some showers or even longer spells of rain expected across western and northwestern areas and the possibility of some rain running across a stretch of southern England but a largely dry day as high pressure tries to build. Southern places basking in sunshine could see temperatures climb to very warm highs. Temperatures around 19 to 27C.

Friday 07/08/20
A largely dry and fine day is expected with temperatures feeling warm to very warm for many as high pressure builds, although Ireland, Northern Ireland and western Scotland could see cloudier skies and some rain about. Highs 22 to 27C and hot in the southeast at 31C.

Saturday 08/08/20
Most places should remain dry under high pressure and light winds, however, the north may just see a front sweep across bringing cloudier skies and some rain here. Highs 20 to 26C and feeling hot still in the southeast of England at 29C.

Sunday 09/08/20
A largely dry, fine and sunny day is expected as the UK sits under high pressure. Scotland could see more in the way of cloud though. Highs 22 to 26C and feeling hot again in the southeast of England with highs at 28C .
