Better into next weekend

A switch to northerly winds this week brings much cooler conditions compared to last week. A changeable mix of rain, showers and some sunny spells. Scottish mountain tops will see a dusting of snow at times. Likely turning milder again by the weekend into next week as southwesterlies return, with high pressure building at least briefly to give a drier weekend outlook.

Wednesday 25/9/24
Low pressure affects the whole British Isles on Wednesday. Centred over Wales and central England it will be bringing cloud and rain to many, some of the rain heavy. Wet too in eastern and southern Scotland and eastern Ireland. Brighter northwest Scotland and western Ireland. Highs at 17C in southern England, but cooler elsewhere especially in rain, only 9 to 12C.

Thursday 26/9/24
Low pressure moves away east on Thursday, but leaves a legacy of showery rain. A cold northwest to northerly flow affecting the country with bands of heavy showers pushing southwards over northern England, Wales and Ireland, locally merging to longer spells of rain. Lighter winds toward the south. Highs at 9 to 14C.


 

Friday 27/9/24
An autumnal day of sunshine and showers. Strong northwesterly winds bringing showers, most common near to north-facing coasts in the east and west. Locally a risk of more frequent showers too in southern England. Snow falling on Scottish mountain tops. Highs at 8 to 13C and feeling especially cold in the wind.


 

Saturday 28/9/24
A ridge of high pressure in England, Wales and Ireland giving some sunny spells. Northwesterly breezes remain chilly. Some showers in the northeast and locally west Wales. A little warmer in central and southern areas, highs 10 to 14C.

Sunday 29/9/24
Higher pressure remains bringing a mostly dry and bright day. Some rain may arrive in Ireland and southwestern parts of the UK later. A slight frost at dawn. Highs at 11 to 16C.
