Drier and warmer later in week

Low pressure continues to dominate for a few more days, giving unsettled conditions widely across Britain and Ireland. Temperatures still often on the cool side, but feeling pleasant when sunshine breaks through. Higher pressure later in the week is due to extend in to bring better weather for mid July.

Tuesday 9/7/24
Low pressure sweeps in across Britain and Ireland bringing extensive rain, heaviest in central and southern regions, but likely to extend north across England. A swathe of rain is likely to affect eastern Ireland and into Northern Ireland too. For Wales it may break up into showers. Some rain reaches southern Scotland, but northern parts of Scotland may escape dry. Varied southeasterly winds, gusty in the southwest. Highs 15 to 21C, warmest in eastern England if rain eases.


Wednesday 10/7/24
Heavy rain is expected to extend northwards overnight into Wednesday, with further heavy rainfall into the daytime for Scotland and Ireland. For England and Wales, it is likely to be a mix of bright spells and scattered heavy showers, these focused toward the west in the morning, forming most widely for central and eastern areas into the afternoon. Fresh southwesterly winds in the south. Highs 15 to 21C.


Thursday 11/7/24
Showery rain is likely for Scotland, northern England also Northern Ireland. Some heavy showers forming for east and northeast England during the day. A few light showers for north Wales. Well scattered showers for southern England but a good deal of dry weather in central areas. Building pressure over the Atlantic brings drier conditions for Ireland. Winds variable or northwesterly. Highs 15 to 21C.


Friday 12/7/24
A ridge of high pressure starts to expand across the country from the west bringing better settled conditions overall. Still a risk of local scattered showers forming by the afternoon, mainly in eastern areas. Light northerly breezes. Highs 16 to 22C.

Saturday 13/7/24
Many places looking fine under generally high pressure. Sunny spells and well broken cloud. Chance of local showers forming in the east. Light winds and feeling warmer. Highs 17 to 23C.

Sunday 14/7/24
Fine conditions continue for many with high pressure over the country. Chance of a weak front to the far northwest giving cloud and spots of rain. Pleasantly warm, highs 18 to 24C.
