High pressure will commonly influence southern Britain over the week ahead, bringing settled weather and some warm days. Low pressure and fronts toward the north & north-west will bring wet and windy conditions at times.

Friday 23/09/16 A ridge of high pressure builds from the south-west, bringing fair weather to much of Britain. Low pressure to the north-west and fronts moving in from the Atlantic threaten rain for Ireland & western Scotland, turning increasingly heavy and persistent, and a south-westerly wind will freshen. For England & Wales, expect a good deal of sunshine once any morning mist or fog clears. Light winds in south. Highs 15 to 20C, warmest in south-east.
Saturday 24/09/16 A continued south-westerly pattern, with high pressure to the south-east, and a series of low pressure systems and fronts to the north-west. Slow-moving fronts are likely to bring persistent rain for Scotland & Ireland, heavy over the hills. Some rain may increasingly spread to north-western England & Wales. Most likely dry in Midlands and south, best sunshine in south-east. Breezy for all. Highs 15 to 18C north & west, 20 to 22C south & east.
Sunday 25/09/16 Detail uncertain, but fronts are likely to make slow progress south-eastwards, resulting in a period of persistent rain for western Britain, this extending further across Wales & north-west England, although the rain band may break up as it reaches central & south-eastern Britain. Cloudy for many, some sun in the east. Sunshine and showers for Ireland. Breezy for all. Temperatures 15 to 20C, coolest where rain lingers.
Monday 26/09/16 Fronts should clear away eastwards and pressure may rebuild from the south-west. Showers in the north & west should fade. Dry and bright for many places throughout the day. The strong breeze is likely to ease. Starting cool, some mist patches. A fresh day, highs 14 to 19C.
Tuesday 27/09/16 Some uncertainty, but high pressure is likely to influence much of Britain, bringing fair conditions to many places. Some early fog patches will clear. Low pressure and fronts over the Atlantic may bring changeable conditions to the north-west. Highs 15 to 20C, warmest south-east.
Wednesday 28/09/16 A similar north-west to south-east divide is likely, with dry and fairly warm conditions for much of England & Wales, but a stronger breeze and a risk of rain or showers in Scotland & Northern Ireland. Highs ranging from 15 to 21C.
