Temperatures recovering, cool on eastern coasts

A cold northerly airflow affects the country this weekend, bringing frost and some wintry showers. High pressure stays nearby into next week, so expect a lot of dry weather again. Temperatures will tend to lift slowly, but not as warm as the current time.

Monday 11/05/20
High pressure to the northwest of Britain draws in a cold Arctic air mass across the country. Strong north to northeasterly winds will feel distinctly chilly for early May. A scattering of showers affect northern Scotland and eastern counties of England, these of hail, or snow over the hill tops. Generally dry with sunshine across central and western regions. A chilly start with frost in sheltered spots. Highs only reaching 9 to 13C.


Tuesday 12/05/20
Dry for most places through the day with slack high pressure in charge. A few showers possible for Scotland and Northern Ireland with more cloud here. Sunshine and broken cloud for England and Wales. Light winds, typically northwesterlies across northern Britain. A chilly start with frost in many rural areas. Highs up to 11 to 14C.
 


Wednesday 13/05/20
High pressure stays positioned to the northwest of the UK, with mostly dry weather. Localised showers may break out for Scotland, and local brief showers near some eastern coasts. A freshening easterly breeze is likely across southern England. Sunshine and warmth best in the west. Feeling cool near eastern coasts. Highs 10 to 15C.
 


Thursday 14/05/20
High pressure continues to influence the country, maintaining settled weather. A chance of very isolated showers, mainly Scotland. An easterly breeze continues in the south. Highs 11 to 16C, warmest in the west of Wales and England to the lee of high ground.

Friday 15/05/20
An east to northeasterly breeze prevails. Generally dry. Sunniest in the west. A chance of some rain over northern France pushing further north into southern England with time. Highs 11 to 16C.

Saturday 16/05/20
Slack pressure is likely to affect the country. Mainly dry, with a chance of isolated showers. Highs 11 to 16C.
