Changeable toward weekend
Hot southerly air during the first part of the week will break into thunderstorms by Wednesday into Thursday. The outlook is then fairly unsettled with rain or showers in the forecast with stronger southwesterly winds later in the week.

Wednesday 31/7/24 A hot day with variable high cloud and sunshine. A risk of local showers forming over central and western England and Wales. Thunderstorms likely to form increasingly by the evening into the night, drifting slowly eastwards across England. Meanwhile, Scotland, Ireland and much of northern England should escape dry. Light and variable winds. Quite humid in the south. Highs 25 to 30C England and Wales, 19 to 23C Scotland and Ireland.
Thursday 1/8/24 Areas of thunderstorms from overnight are likely to drift out eastwards into the North Sea. Staying quite humid with a risk of further localised downpours developing again into the afternoon for central, east and southern areas. Variable high cloud and some sun. A freshening southwesterly breeze for western Scotland and Ireland, some local showers possible. Highs 21 to 27C, warmest southeast.
Friday 2/8/24 Much of central, south and eastern England often dry with sunny spells. Brisk southwesterly breezes bring more cloud to western regions, showery rain at times, most frequent for western Scotland and Ireland. Drier toward east and northeast Scotland. Highs 17 to 20C north and west, warmer south and east, 23 to 26C.
Saturday 3/8/24 Feeling fresher for all as a cold front passes eastwards. A little rain for south and eastern England soon clearing to leave sunny spells. Showery toward the northwest of Britain and Ireland, fresh southwesterly winds. Drier for northeast Scotland with some sun. Highs 16 to 23C, warmest southern England.
Sunday 4/8/24 Low pressure to the northwest brings fairly unsettled conditions, areas of rain passing eastwards, heaviest in the west. Breezy and cooler than previous days. Highs 14 to 22C.
Monday 5/8/24 A risk of heavy rain in the south as fronts move through. Showery for many places, some more frequent rain. Fresh southwesterly breezes. Highs 14 to 22C.
