An unsettled next few days then higher pressure builds again at the weekend.

Wednesday 18/5/22
Much of the rain affecting Scotland overnight gradually clears away during the morning here to see drier and brighter weather. Elsewhere, it will be largely dry with sunny spells for a time before cloud builds and more rain pushes in from the southwest and tracks northeastwards affecting Wales and southwestern counties of England. Meanwhile, a separate area of rain will push northwards across Ireland into Northern Ireland. Highs at 17 to 23C for most, though across southeast England highs up to a very warm 25 to 26C.

Thursday 19/5/22
High pressure builds in from the south on Thursday allowing most places to be dry after a night of heavy rain for some, with better sunny spells gradually developing, though a cloudy and murky start is to be expected. On a southwesterly wind there is the risk of showery rain affecting western regions of Ireland as well as west Scotland through the day. Highs at 16 to 23C.

Friday 20/5/22
We gradually pull back into a more westerly flow on Friday with showers affecting some western areas, while longer spells of rain push across north and west Scotland as well as track eastwards across Ireland and Northern Ireland. Further south and east many places should stay dry with hazy sunshine, however, the southeast of England could see some heavy showers with thunder and lightning possible. Feeling pleasant but not as warm as previous days with highs at 15 to 20C.

Saturday 21/5/22
Winds turn around to a cooler north-westerly on Saturday as high pressure builds back in across the country. Showers look to affect some northern and western coastal areas of the country but elsewhere it will be dry with bright and or sunny spells. Highs at 12 to 19C.

Sunday 22/5/22
Higher pressure is the dominant weather feature on Sunday, allowing for a mostly dry day with sunny spells, though with a few scattered light showers affecting western Scotland and northern England. Highs at 15 to 20C.

Monday 23/5/22
Perhaps a cooler northerly wind moves in for the start of the new week with showers affecting northern regions and coastal areas of Scotland, drier across southern Scotland. Showers also affecting northern regions of Northern Ireland. Elsewhere, it will be dry with a good deal of sunshine about across England. Highs at 14 to 19C for most but cooler across northern Scotland at 8 to 10C.
