Week ahead - August 07, 2022
Heatwave for England and Wales
Another dry week

Issued: 0900 Sunday 7th August 2022
Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson

Possible thundery breakdown from the weekend

High temperatures are expected again during the week ahead, peaking later in the week across central and southern Britain, rising into the mid-30s Celsius. Eastern coasts may see fog or cloud drift in from the North Sea at times. Otherwise, lots of sunshine, but skies becoming hazier. Things may start to change over the weekend as lowering pressure brings scope for thunderstorms in places.

For the weather for the next few days click here

Wednesday 10/8/22
High pressure brings fine weather and light winds to most of the British Isles with very warm conditions in the south. Extensive strong sunshine. A strong easterly breeze along the south coast. Rain-bearing fronts are kept away over the Atlantic to the northwest. A little more cloud toward northwest Scotland where a southwesterly breeze prevails. Top temperatures 29 to 33C for much of England and Wales, 23 to 27C for northwest England, Scotland and Ireland.

Thursday 11/8/22
A weak front brings cloud and some patchy rain to the West and Northern Isles of Scotland. Otherwise it stays dry and very warm under high pressure. Some misty low cloud could affect some eastern coasts, but this breaking to leave sunny spells. Lots more strong sunshine and very warm again. Highs at 34C in central-southern England and south Wales, 24 to 28C for Cumbria, Scotland and Ireland. Cooler if in cloud on the east coast, also northwest Scotland, 20C or below.

Friday 12/8/22
Staying very warm or hot. High pressure centred toward the north allows a southeasterly breeze to prevail. Sunshine and quite hazy skies across England and Wales. Possible some low cloud or fog near some North Sea coasts. Remnants of a front around the Northern Isles may bring patchy rain. Otherwise another dry day. Highs 31 to 35C for central and southern areas, 23 to 28C north and near coasts.

Saturday 13/8/22
High pressure toward the north and northwest. Easterly breezes prevailing. Dry for most places. Chance of a shower in the north, perhaps local thunderstorms around the southwestern English Channel. Some low cloud and drizzle may affect eastern coasts where temperatures would be cooler. Otherwise a hot day again, highs 31 to 35C south, 23 to 28C north.

Sunday 14/8/22
An easterly flow prevails. Still the risk of more cloud cover in the east with possible drizzle. Risk of thunderstorms developing in the far south. Otherwise, it will be dry and fine with sunny spells and again feeling very warm, hot in the south. Highs at 20C in the far north up to 34C across southern England.

Monday 15/8/22
Confidence of detail is low, but lowering pressure may see showers and thunderstorms break out more widely, although locally hit and miss, moving around slowly under light winds. Still hot, but temperatures easing back with more cloud cover. Highs 25 to 30C.
