Dry, foggy south
Colder Monday

Issued: 0900 Wednesday 12th January 2022
Duty forecaster: Simon Keeling

Dense fog ion south, cloudier western Scotland

Remains fairly quiet through the course of the coming week. High pressure will bring lots of mist and fog and this may be dense at times especially across England, Wales and Ireland. More breeze in Scotland will prevent dense fog forming but there is a higher risk of some rain at times in the West. Despite temperatures be nearer average it may become briefly colder for all on Monday.

Saturday 15/1/22
High pressure will be to the south of the country on Saturday. There will be some mist and fog patches through many parts of England and Wales as well as eastern Scotland. Some lower cloud may affect western coast of England, Wales and Scotland with a risk of some drizzle here later in the afternoon. The best of any brightness is likely to be across more eastern areas. Highs at 6 to 8C.

Sunday 16/1/22
A front sinks south through Scotland on Sunday bringing the wind flow into the north-west. This brings some outbreaks of rain across Scotland and Northern Ireland and then into northern England later. Generally drier across central and eastern areas of the country although with broken cloud here and there is a risk of some rain affecting western parts of Wales and Southwest England. Turning colder in northern Scotland with some wintry showers here. Highs at 5C in northern Scotland, more generally 7 to 9C.

Monday 17/1/22
The area of high pressure is expected to be centred over the west of the UK and Ireland on Monday. This is going to bring a cooler day with a risk of some showers affecting northern and eastern Scotland, perhaps one or two in eastern England. The showers could be wintry times. Dry and brighter in the western south with some good spells of sunshine after morning fog patches of cleared. An early frost. Highs around 3 to 5C.

Tuesday 18/1/22
She remains through Tuesday. There could be some rather dense mist and fog across many parts of England and Wales at first. This will only slowly clear, but when it does a few bright spells will occur. Small cloud affecting western Scotland and western Ireland with risk of some drizzle here. Highs at 5 to 7C.

Wednesday 19/1/22
The area of high pressure is probably over southern areas on Wednesday. Widespread mist and fog across Central in southern England and Wales, slowly lifting. More cloud affecting north-western Scott and with some persistent rain here whilst elsewhere it should be mostly dry with some broken cloud and the best of any sunshine in the east. Highs at 6 to 8C.

Thursday 20/1/22
Change for Thursday with high pressure again leading to some mist and fog across many parts of southern Ireland, Wales central and southern England.
