Week ahead - December 30, 2019
Dry few days
Milder next week

Issued: 0900 Monday 30th December 2019
Duty forecaster: Dr. Simon Keeling

Dry for days ahead, variable cloud and temperatures, then windier and milder next week

Plenty of dry weather for the next few days as higher pressure influences the weather of the UK and Ireland. Variable amounts of cloud will bring sunshine to some, but some dull days for others. A risk of drizzle in western Scotland. Temperatures will be varying too. Turning cooler from the north on Friday, all areas briefly experiencing the cooler weather over the weekend. Indications for next week are for windier, milder conditions to develop.

Thursday 2/1/20
High pressure remains to the south on Thursday. Rather cloudy in many areas of England and Wales, but generally dry, with the best of any brightness to the southeast. Drizzle affects western Wales. Heavier rain and windier in western Scotland and Ireland. Drier in eastern Scotland and the east of England. Highs at 8 to 11C.

Friday 3/1/20
A cold front passing southeast through the UK and Ireland on Friday. This takes an area of showery rain with it, most of it fairly light. Brighter, cooler weather follows to the north with sunny spells, although heavy, sometimes wintry showers into northern and western Scotland. Highs at 5C in northern Scotland, 11C in southern England.

Saturday 4/1/20
High pressure remains on Saturday. This is likely to bring a cool day with plenty of sunshine once any morning mist and fog patches have cleared. Dry for most, although a low risk of some showers over eastern coasts. Highs at 3 to 6C.

Sunday 5/1/20
High pressure to the south on Sunday. This brings a higher risk of mist and fog in southern England, only slowly clearing. A cold day for much of England and Wales. A southwest flow in Scotland, Ireland and northern England bringing cloud, stronger winds and some rain or drizzle over western Scotland and western Ireland. Highs at 4C in southern England, 8C in northwest Scotland.

Monday 6/1/20
The high pressure remains to the south with low pressure to the north. A breezy day with cloud and outbreaks of rain in much of northern England and Scotland, heavy in the west. Tending to be drier in southern England. Highs at 6 to 10C.

Tuesday 7/1/20
The mild west to southwest flow continues over much of the country. Cloud and some outbreaks of rain in the south. Coler in Scotland and northern England with showers north and west. Highs at 4 to 10C.
