Dry and warm
Cooler east

Issued: 0900 Wednesday 1st September 2021
Duty forecaster: Simon Keeling

Lots of dry weather, feeling warm for most but cooler and cloudier at times in the east

Initially a cool and cloudy picture across large parts of the country. An east versus west split develops over the weekend and into next week, as air starts to arrive from the continent. Temperatures rising towards the weekend and early next week, locally into the mid to high 20s in the south, and a better chance of dry and bright conditions for most. Some light rain or drizzle cannot be ruled out on western coasts, especially over Sunday and into the following week.

Saturday 4/9/21
A large area of high pressure to the east of the UK on Saturday. This is going to be bringing some cloud to eastern areas, perhaps the chance of a few spots of drizzle in the morning, most in eastern Scotland. Further cloud in southern Ireland and perhaps over southern coasts of England. Elsewhere it is going to be brighter with some good spells of sunshine. Highs at 17C in eastern Scotland and eastern England, nearer 20 to 23C in the west.

Sunday 5/9/21
High pressure brings dry and warm weather on Sunday for most of the country, with the highest temperatures the further south and east you go. Cloud breaking during the afternoon, with the best chance of sunny spells in the east and northeast of England, with the highest temperatures in the southeast. There may be a risk of some light rain or drizzle on western coasts of Wales and the southwest, with temperatures a little cooler here. Temperatures of 20 to 25C for England and Wales, with slightly cooler conditions across Scotland, 18 to 21C here.

Monday 6/9/21
High pressure dominates, with dry weather likely across most of the United Kingdom and a warm southeasterly wind from the continent bringing warm to hot conditions. Cloud will likely fragment to leave sunny spells across most of central and southern England, although there is a possibility of a little more cloud on southern coasts. Cloud likely to be thicker across much of Scotland, with temperatures a little cooler here too. Temperatures higher in the south of the country in the warm sunshine, 24 to 27C here widely, with temperatures cooler further north, 17 to 21C in Scotland and Northern England.

Tuesday 7/9/21

Cloud will likely fragment to leave sunny spells across most of central and southern England, although there is a possibility of a little more cloud on southern coasts. Wednesday 8/9/21
Wednesday sees higher pressure move away towards Scandinavia, with the possibility of fresher conditions across the west. Always the possibility of more unsettled conditions in the west, particularly on the coasts, where some more persistent light rain or drizzle is possible. Further east is likely to be another dry and warm day, with temperatures maybe a little lower than Tuesday, 24 to 27C across the Midlands and southeast, perhaps 28c locally. Under any rain or low cloud in the southwest and west coasts of Wales, temperatures of 19 to 23C here. In Scotland, slightly cooler than southern England, temperatures of 18 to 22C.

Thursday 9/9/21
Dry weather dominates for most of the south and east, although an isolated shower cannot be ruled out here. A rain band moving across the west bringing some light and patchy rain and fresher conditions from the Atlantic. For western coasts of Scotland and Wales, some light rain and thicker cloud is possible, although the rain tending to weaken as it moves east, introducing fresher and sunnier conditions to Ireland. Temperatures 18 to 22C, with a strengthening breeze into the afternoon.
