A cold start, then some rain in the north this weekend before turning drier, warmer and brighter next week

After a cold and bright couple of days, the weather is set to become more settled overall. There will be rain in Scotland this weekend, but then as pressure builds, drier conditions and warmer weather with more sunshine develops next week. Windy in southern areas, with the best sunshine in the west later in the forecast period.

Saturday 14/9/24
Low pressure northwest of Scotland on Saturday. Fronts bring cloud and rain across Scotland and Ireland as well as strong winds. Drier for England and most of Wales, although low cloud and some drizzle affecting western Wales. Some spells of sunshine for central, eastern and southern England. Highs at 19C in eastern England, 15C in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Sunday 15/9/24
A weak front lying through central England, wales and southwest England on Sunday. Much cloud is likely in these areas as well as a few spots of rain and drizzle. Some showers in northern and western Scotland. Dry for other areas with bright spells, although always plenty of cloud in much of England. Highs at 13 to 16C for most, 21C in the far south of England.

Rain in Northern Ireland and Scotland on Monday as fronts pass east. Drier and brighter for much of England and Wales as well as southern Ireland. Best sunshine in southeastern England. Highs at 14 to 19C.

Higher pressure building on Tuesday. Some cloud and a few showers in Scotland, northern and eastern England. Fairly bright for other areas, dry and with some sunny spells, best in the west. Tops at 16 to 21C.



 
 
 

Wednesday 18/9/24
A ridge of high pressure extends across the country from Norway on Wednesday. This brings more dry weather and broken cloud with warmer temperatures. Best sunny spells in the west and turning fairly breezy in the south. Highs at 17C in northern Scotland, 24C in southern England.

Thursday 19/9/24
Pressure stays high overall on Thursday. Breezy in southern England. Dry for most with the best sunshine in the west. Highs at 18 to 23C.
