Staying unsettled with gales, rain and showers, then becoming drier next week

The unsettled weather continues for several days as low pressure brings gales, rain and showers. It will be milder in the east but turning cooler north and west. Indications of the weather settling down again into next week with the winds becoming lighter and drier weather.

Friday 22/9/23
Low pressure remains to the northeast of Scotland on Friday. Sunny spells and showers, the heaviest of these in the north and west. More eastern and southern areas will be brighter with some sunny spells but also a few showers. Turning drier in Ireland as a ridge of high pressure builds later in the day. Tops near 17C in East Anglia and southeast England, 14C in northern Scotland and feeling cooler in many north and western areas.


Saturday 23/9/23
A ridge of high pressure builds on Saturday bringing a fair day. The morning will be starting cold but then good spells of sunshine developing. Increasing cloud, gale force winds and rain moving into Ireland, this reaching western areas of England, Wales and Scotland by evening. Tops at 12 to 17C.

Sunday 24/9/23
Low pressure west of Scotland with a strong to gale force southwest winds affecting all areas. There will be plenty of cloud and some outbreaks of rain, most of it in northern and western areas where some will be heavy. Brighter in eastern Scotland and eastern Ireland, although heavy showers in western Scotland and western Ireland. Drier in east Anglia and southeast England with cloud and a few bright spells here and there. Feeling muggy in the south east but cooler north west. Highs near 16 to 21C.

Monday 25/9/23
The southwest flow remains on Monday although high pressure is expected to be building to the south. Low pressure northwest of Scotland brings a windy day here with periods of rain and showers, Ireland stays mostly dry. A risk of cloud in central and southern England and Wales. Cloudier western coasts of Wales and England with some drizzle. brighter in the east. Highs at 23C in central and eastern England, 14C in northern Scotland.

Tuesday 26/9/23
Higher pressure builds to the south and east bringing a fair day here. It will be warm in the sunshine too. More cloud in Scotland with some patchy rain northwest. Highs around 16C in northern Scotland, 22C in southern England.

Wednesday 27/9/23
High pressure remains through the British Isles on Wednesday. Mostly dry with sunny spells although more cloud in western Scotland and Ireland giving a few spots of drizzle. Highs at 17 to 22C.
