Issued: 0900hrs Thursday 8th September 2021
Duty forecaster: Alexi Venerus

Cooler with mixed conditions.

We lose this late summer hot spell and move into more mixed weather conditions and fresher temperatures, even perhaps cool for some further north. Potential for some heavy spells of rain moving in at times through the week with brisk winds.

Sunday 12/9/21
High pressure extends back across the northern half of Britain resulting in cool start with fog and mist patches in the morning, before a fair day ahead with sunny spells for Scotland, Northern Ireland and much of northern England. Eastern and southern regions are likely to be cloudier, with some showery rain in places but plenty of dry conditions too. Ireland may just see some spells of heavy rain push northwards, but currently confidence in this is low. Highs 15 to 20C generally but perhaps up to 24C in the southeast of England.

Monday 13/9/21
A cool start for many northern places again with the potential for some low-lying fog. Dry for many, but rain, possibly heavy, could affect parts of west England, Wales and eastern regions of Ireland. A relatively cool day for most. Highs 14 to 19C.

Tuesday 14/9/21
Low pressure over the near continent may just continue to play havok closer to our shores and bring some showery rain, perhaps heavy, across southern parts of England, in particular East Anglia but also towards the Midlands. A drier and brighter day further north and west as higher pressure is the dominant feature across Scotland. Highs 14 to 21C.

Wednesday 15/9/21
A ridge develops across the country on Wednesday allowing for a largely dry and fair day with sunny spells about, although some eastern regions of England may just catch some morning rain before it pulls away offshore. Highs at 15 to 20C.

Thursday 16/9/21
Dry for many to start but an Atlantic low pressure system soon pushes a band of rain across Ireland, Northern Ireland and on across Scotland and into western areas of Britain through the day. Furthest east currently looks to remain dry throughout with the best of the sunshine. A milder south-westerly wind picks up. Highs at 17 to 21C perhaps cooler though across Scotland.

Friday 17/9/21
Rain expected across central into eastern regions of Britain to start the day clearing central regions but may just hold on to some far eastern regions throughout. Meanwhile, a ridge looks to build in the west allowing for drier and brighter conditions here. Highs at 16 to 20C.
