A cool and unsettled end to the week, but improving early next week

An unsettled and cool end to the week as low pressure takes control. It may be windy at times with heavy bursts of rain in places. Conditions may improve early in the new week although it may take some time for showers to fade away. Becoming milder as the showers ease.

Thursday 18/8/16
Low pressure over southern areas of the UK and Ireland on Thursday. Fronts associated with the low bringing cloud and outbreaks of rain here, rather murky too. Higher pressure north of Scotland with an easterly wind bringing low cloud to eastern coasts and hills. The best of the brightness and drier weather in more protected western areas. Tops at 20 to 23C for most, but 17C in the breeze on eastern coasts.


Friday 19/8/16
An area of low pressure developing off western Ireland on Friday. This brings a more unsettled day for nearly all parts of the country as fronts pass east bringing rain followed by sunshine and showers. Northern and central Scotland should stay drier overall with sunny spells, although low cloud and some patchy rain affecting the east with more persistent rain in southern Scotland. A fresher day for all. Highs of 16 to 20C.


Saturday 20/8/16
Unsettled and becoming very windy across southern England and Wales on Saturday with a good deal of cloud and plenty of showers, some heavy. A pulse of more persistent rain may run across the south of Britain with gusts of 40-50mph in the far south. Highs of 16 to 21C.
 


Sunday 21/8/16
Low pressure to the west of Scotland on Sunday. This brings more rain eastwards through Ireland and then the UK. Most of the rain in Ireland, western Wales and southwest England. Brighter weather and showers following from the west, the showers heavy at times. Tops at 16 to 22C.


Monday 22/8/16
Low pressure close to Ireland on Monday. This brings cloud and rain here, some of it heavy. Drier further south with sunny spells, although there will be a few showers in the west. Breezy for all as well. Tops at 16 to 23C.

Tuesday 23/8/16
A ridge of higher pressure may build through the UK and Ireland on Tuesday. This should bring a better day with sunny spells and mostly dry conditions. Highs around 16 to 22C.
