Showers next week

A cool and windy weekend ahead, showers next week

A bit of a shock this weekend as the weather turns distinctly autumnal. Low pressure will be bringing strong winds and heavy showers as well as cooler temperatures. However, more mixed summer-like conditions are set to return into next week. There will be rain at times, but this will be followed by showers. Probably warmer again for a time in the middle of the week.

Saturday 20/8/16
Low pressure remains in control on Saturday, centred north of Ireland. This brings a windy day to all with a mix of sunny spells and blustery showers. The best of any sunshine in more eastern areas. Showers turning heavy at times and merging into longer spells of rain, especially in southern Ireland, Wales and western parts of England. Less showers to the east, although still some heavy ones around. Cooler for all at 15 to 21C.

Sunday 21/8/16
Low pressure passes east across the UK on Sunday. This brings heavy showers or longer spells of rain early in the day over central and eastern areas. Brighter with sunny spells and scattered showers in more northern and western areas. The brighter, showery weather slipping east through the day, although turning dry in the west later. Highs at 16 to 21C.

Monday 22/8/16
Low pressure close to western Ireland on Monday. Fronts pass eastwards taking rain with them, most of the rain affecting Scotland, with a further area of rain through southern parts of England, some of this heavy. Sunshine and showers follow from the west. Tops at 15 to 23C. and feeing less cool for many

Tuesday 23/8/16
Low pressure to the northwest of Scotland on Tuesday, higher pressure to the south. Periods of rain affecting western Scotland, Northern Ireland and western Ireland too. Showers for England and Wales with some of them turning heavy and possibly thundery. Sunny spells between the showers. Tops at 16 to 22C.

Wednesday 24/8/16
A ridge of high pressure builds on Wednesday bringing some good spells of sunshine and warm weather for most. Thundery showers may break out over southern England, Wales and southern Ireland later. Highs at 17 to 24C.

Thursday 25/8/16
Thundery showers or longer outbreaks of rain may affect the south of the UK today, becoming humid as well. Probably drier in Scotland with some sunny spells. Temperatures at 17 to 24C.
