Turning much colder
Drier for a time

Issued: 0900 Wednesday 23rd October 2019
Duty forecaster: Dr. Simon Keeling

Colder, wet at first then drier for a time

Temperatures are going to be turning much colder through this weekend as northerly winds arrive. After wet weather at the end of the week, higher pressure should be building allowing for drier conditions. It is likely to be cold throughout next week, turning wetter for a time in the middle of the week.

Saturday 26/10/19
Rain clearing southern England on Saturday, although this may take somem time. Low pressure to the north of Scotland brings a windy day in northern areas of the UK. Gales in northern Scotland. Frequent showers in northern and western Scotland, some heavy. Scattered showers in western Ireland, west Wales and western England. Drier elsewhere with the best of any sunshine in the east. Feeling cold for all. Highs at 6 to 9C.

Sunday 27/10/19
High pressure builds west of Ireland on Sunday. Depsite it being cold many places should be bright and dry with good spells of sunshine. For northern Scotland there will be some showers, these wintry on hills in Scotland. The best sunshine and driest weather to the south. Highs at 6 to 10C.

Monday 28/10/19
High pressure to the west of Scotland on Monday. A cold day in a northeast wind. Mostly dry with god spells of sunshine, the best in the west. More cloud in southwest England with the risk of some rain here. Highs at 4 to 9C.

Tuesday 29/10/19
Lower pressure to the southwest may bring some rain in southern Ireland and southwest England on Tuesday, brezy here too. Higher pressure remains west of Scotland, but broken cloud may affect northern and eastern areas. The best of any brightness or sunshine in the west. Tops at a cold 5C in northern Scotland, 9C in southern England.

Wednesday 30/10/19
Very low confidence in the forecast for Wednesday but it does seem that an area of rain may develop over the UK and Ireland. There is uncertainty in how much rain may fall, but it could be wet and windy for a time. Perhaps drier in northern Scotland. Highs at 5 to 10C.

Thursday 31/10/19
Low confidence again in the forecast for Thursday. At this time it does look as if low pressure will be close to the east. This brings wind and rain over much of England, Wales and Scotland, although higher pressure allows for showers in the west. Cold for all. Highs at 4 to 8C.
