A taste of winter next week, snow showers for all

Temperatures are set to be falling next week as we see our first widespread taste of winter this season. There will be snow showers extending through all parts of the country, together with widespread ice and frost. Before then it should be staying rather mild but mixed with cloud, rain and showers.

Sunday 10/1/16
Low pressure is expected to be over Scotland on Sunday. This could bring some strong winds and fairly heavy rain to parts of Scotland. A further area of cloud and showery rain in Wales, southern Ireland and southern England, but tending to stay drier in more sheltered central and eastern areas. Highs at 5 to 9C.

Monday 11/1/16
Low pressure is expected to be remaining over the country on Monday. This will be giving further spells of rain, sleet and snow. Some areas will be drier and brighter, although it is difficult to predict where these will be. Highs at a cooler 4 to 8C.

Tuesday 12/1/16
Colder air combined with low pressure east of Scotland may bring more widespread snow showers on Tuesday. There could be a covering of snow in places by the end of the day, with heavier falls possible in Scotland as well as northwest and eastern England. Highs at 1 to 6C.

Wednesday 13/1/16
Staying cold on Wednesday with pressure remaining low. A mix of sunny spells and snow showers for most, perhaps the risk of some more persistent showers across parts of northern and eastern Scotland. Highs near 2 to 6C.

Thursday 14/1/16
Cold again for Thursday with high pressure to the west and low pressure to the east. Further snow showers affecting western, northern and eastern coasts and hills. Drier in the far south. Highs near 1 to 4C.

Friday 15/1/16
Staying cold fro Friday as low pressure crosses southern parts of the UK. This brings the threat of more widespread rain, sleet and snow together with strong winds. Snow showers in Scotland where it stays cold. Highs at 2 to 5C.
