Staying chilly through the week with a risk of early wintry showers
Cold at first this week with a risk of wintry showers. Most of these affecting northern areas of the country. There will be much dry weather around with sunny spells through the middle to later stages of the week, just a few bands of showers passing through. Overnight frosts are likely throughout the week.

Low pressure passes to the north of Scotland on Thursday. A fair amount of cloud and staying cold across much of England and Wales as well as southern Ireland. Getting brighter in Scotland and the north and west of Ireland, the showers turning wintry in northern Scotland with a risk of gales here. Some rain into northern England, north Wales and central and southern Ireland in the afternoon. Staying dry in the south. Highs at 7 to 10C, turning colder in northern Scotland during the day.
A cold front brings some cloud and patchy rain through southern Ireland, Wales, central and eastern England on Friday, this clearing south during the day. Brighter, colder weather follows. Some wintry showers in northern and western Scotland and Northern Ireland. Highs at 9C in southern England, 3C in northern Scotland.
High pressure to the west on Saturday. A cold north to northwest flow across the country with a morning frost. Broken cloud and some showers, a few of them wintry, mostly on exposed hills and coasts. Tops at 4 to 9C.
Another widespread frost on Sunday morning under high pressure. There will be some sunny spells, although cloud could develop for many during the day. A risk of some thicker cloud in the far northern and west of Scotland as well as western Ireland, a few spots of rain here. Highs at 6 to 9C.
Better conditions in southern areas on Wednesday as a weak ridge of high pressure builds to bring some bright or sunny spells. Heavy showers in northern and western Scotland as well as Northern Ireland. Brighter to the east and south. Highs at 7 to 10C.
Low pressure over FRance with a further area of low pressure north of Scotland. Some patchy rain in the south of England, a further area of rain in western Scotland and Northern Ireland. Dry elsewhere with sunny spells. Highs at 11C in southern England, 8 to 10C elsewhere.
