An unsettled week with the threat of some wintry weather

A wintry week of weather ahead for many with some snow a distinct possibility through shoes day and also Thursday. It will be a fairly unsettled week and staying chilly for most. Overnight frosts are likely to. Just some early hints of the weather being less chilly next week.

Thursday 31/1/19
A deeper area of low pressure close to southern Ireland on Thursday will bring strong winds and rain too much of Ireland and Southwest England. As this rain area moves northwards into Wales and the Midlands it will turn to sleet and snow, mainly over higher ground. Heavy rain could affect southern part of England. Dryer for northern England and Scotland although cloud increasing here with the sleet and snow reaching northern England by evening. Increasingly misty and murky in southern areas with temperatures at 7°C in in Southwest England, but more widely 1 to 3°C.

Friday 1/2/19
No pressure is likely to beat to the size of the country through Friday. There will be a fair amount of cloud with bands of wintry showers affecting many areas. Brighter in much of Scotland but snow showers east and west and further wintry showers affecting much of Ireland. Temperatures rising to 7°C in southeast England, more generally 2 to 4°C.


Saturday 2/2/19
Low pressure remains to the east with a ridge of high-pressure building to the west through Saturday. There will be a mix of sunny spells and wintry showers, most of the showers over more eastern areas. A cold day with temperatures at 1 to 4°C.


Sunday 3/2/19
A frosty start to Sunday as a ridge of high-pressure builds over the country. This should bring a mostly fair day with sunny spells. Cloud increasing in Ireland with some rain in the west. Temperatures at 2 to 5°C.

Monday 4/2/19
The risk of some wet weather for Monday as low-pressure pushes fronts eastwards through the country. These bringing cloud and rain with them. Temperatures at 3 to 7°C.

Tuesday 5/2/19
Higher pressure is likely to be bringing a drier day on Tuesday Morning frost gives way to sunny spells. Western areas tending to see more cloud with some rain in western Ireland and western Scotland. Highs near 4 to 8C.
