Becoming very warm
Humid midweek, thunderstorms

Issued: 0900hrs Friday 12th August 2016
Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson

Mixed later in the week, staying warm

A fair weekend overall, as high pressure builds across the country. Temperatures will rise into the new week as a strong south-easterly pattern develops. As humidity rises, thunderstorms are likely by midweek.

Monday 15/08/16
High pressure centred toward the east, allowing a south-easterly breeze to freshen. Dry across the country, with extensive sunshine. Slight haze, and some high level cloud may develop in the far west as fronts approach from the Atlantic. Winds may become strong around English Channel & Irish Sea coasts. Starting cool, locally 7C or below in rural north. Highs climbing to 21 to 25C, warmest south.

Tuesday 16/08/16
High pressure to the east and low pressure south-west maintains a strong south-easterly breeze. Dry for most of Britain all day. Strong sunshine, may turn hazy. Fronts encroach in from the Atlantic, bringing thickening cloud and some rain to Ireland. Later thunderstorms may develop around south-western Britain, perhaps only arriving into the night. Highs 22 to 27C, locally warmer south.

Wednesday 17/08/16
Detail uncertain, but zones of thunderstorms are likely to advance north & eastwards across Britain. Risk of localised flooding from torrential downpours, but some areas may miss these storms. Feeling humid, some hazy sunshine. Strong and gusty south-easterly winds. Temperatures 20 to 23C west & north, but 26 to 28C or higher central & south-eastern areas.

Thursday 18/08/16
Low confidence of detail. Expect the legacy of thunderstorms, probably pushing north-eastwards across Britain. Pressure may build from the south-west to bring drier weather and some sunshine. Remaining fairly humid. Highs 20 to 26C.

Friday 19/08/16
Detail remains uncertain, with a slack pressure regime in place following the storms of midweek. Some sunshine, and remaining quite humid. Possibility of further thundery rain. Highs 19 to 26C.

Saturday 20/08/16
Chance of an area of low pressure bringing a period of thundery rain toward the south, but hints of an improvement as pressure builds from the west. Highs 18 to 25C.
