A mixed week
Driest to the south

Issued: 0900 Sunday 17th June 2018
Duty forecaster: Dr. Simon Keeling

rather mixed especially in the north, but dry with good spells of sunshine to the souths

Rather mixed conditions are expected in the coming week. High pressure does try to have an influence over the weather and so rainfall amounts will be low. It is likely that most rain occurs through Scotland, Northern Ireland and the far northwest of England, although amounts are below average. Bits of rain head further south but these are very limited. The best sunshine in southern areas too. Temperatures varying, but generally warm.

Wednesday 20/6/18
An area of low pressure crossing Scotland on Wednesday brings cloud and rain here. The rain may be heavy at times in northern and western areas. Rain affecting Northern Ireland and also western coast of Ireland. The rain area slipsinto northwest England although gets lighter as it reaches Wales later. Elsewhere that day should be generally bright with sunny spells, the best of these in eastern and southern England. Winds will be moderate south-westerly but will be fresh on western coasts. Temperatures reaching highs of 26°C in south-east England but only 12°C in the wetter north west of Scotland.

Thursday 21/6/18
A ridge of high pressure extends through the UK and Ireland on Thursday. This gives brighter weather with spells of sunshine, the best in the south. However, a few showers may affect eastern Scotland and eastern England. Highs at 14 to 22C.

Friday 22/6/18
Pressure stays high on Friday. This brings good spells of sunshine and a dry day once again for most. A weak front may bring some cloud and drizzle to the far west of Ireland. Sea breezes developing. Highs at 18 to 23C.

Saturday 23/6/18
Weak fronts may pass east on Saturday bringing the risk of some patchy rain to western Scotland and Northern Ireland. The chance of a shower on eastern coasts of England too. Most other areas will have broken cloud and some sunshine. Highs at 18 to 23C.

Sunday 24/6/18
Probably more cloud around for most on Sunday. Low pressure it to the north with high pressure to the south. There may be some showery bursts of rain, most in northern areas with the south staying generally dry. A breezier day with tops of 15 to 23C.

Monday 25/6/18
Pressure is likely yo be building again on Monday. This should bring a dry day with sunny spells in much of the UK and Ireland. Always the risk of a shower on eastern coasts. Highs at 16 to 23C.
