A cold weekend
Milder next week

Issued: 0800 Friday 2nd December 2016
Duty forecaster: Simon Keeling

A cold weekend but then turning milder next week

A cool and rather murky weekend ahead as high pressure slips away to the east. This is going allow for plenty of dry weather across the UK and Ireland, but also some fog and frost. After a cold start to next week it is likely to become milder with the first rain many will have seen for a couple of weeks.

Monday 5/12/16
Pressure remains high across the UK and Ireland on Monday, but a weak front affects Ireland. This brings more cloud here and the threat of some patchy rain here during the day. A few spots of rain may affect western Wales too. Rather murky for much of England and western Scotland with the best of any brightness towards the east. A cold day for most at 3 to 5C but up to 11C in the far southwest and nearer 8C in Ireland.

Tuesday 6/12/16
High pressure centred toward the south-east promotes a southerly flow on Tuesday. Quite a bit of cloud around and rather murky too, especially in the west. There could be some drizzle and periods of rain in Ireland and western Scotland as well as the far west of Wales and southwest England. Probably brighter to the east. Highs 4 to 7C, but the south-west may become milder, up to 10 to 12C.

Wednesday 7/12/16
Becoming generally milder across the country. Fronts moving in off the Atlantic may bring outbreaks of rain, most of this in the west. Probably more patchy rai to the east. Rather cloudy for all. Highs 9 to 12C

Thursday 8/12/16
A mild south to south-westerly flow is likely on Thursday as a ridge of high pressure builds across the country once again. Fronts bring rain into Ireland with an increased wind here. Highs 7 to 12C.

Friday 9/12/16
Weak fronts passing eastwards on Friday, although there is much uncertainty in the forecast. It is likely to be rather cloudy and damp in many western and southern areas. Probably becoming brighter in Ireland and western Scotland. Mild again at 7 to 12C.

Saturday 10/12/16
A front may become slow moving across the east on Sunday. Rather damp here as a result with periods of rain. Brighter to the west with a mix of sunshine and showers. Highs at 6 to 9C.
