The afternoon sees the strong winds and risk of gales passing through much of Wales, England and Scotland, although still dry in the far north of Scotland. It may also stay dry in the far southeast of England. Snow could affect the hills of central and southern Scotland. Heavy rain will be replaced by blustery showers in Ireland. A strong to gale force north to northwest wind will be bringing frequent, heavy showers across much of northern England and Scotland, these pushing into the Midlands, Wales and most of eastern England as well as East Anglia in the afternoon. More scattered showers in the far south of England and southern Wales. Showers may merge to longer spells of rain at times, a risk of thunder too. The winds easing quickly during the day. Low pressure remains east of England on Wednesday. The northwest flow brings a further mix of sunshine and showers. These showers could be heavy at times, especially in the east. The showers tending to ease through the afternoon with the best of any sunshine tending to be across Northern Ireland, southern Scotland and parts of Wales and western England.
