Broken cloud and some bright or sunny spells in central and southern areas this morning. Windier in northern England and Scotland as well as Ireland. Wet for much of Scotland, some heavy periods of rain. Rain too in the far north of Northern Ireland. Staying dry elsewhere with some bright or sunny spells in central and southern areas. A scattering of showers over western Wales and western Ireland. Staying breezy in the north. Highs at 8 to 11C for most but 2C in the far north of Scotland.


Monday Night
A windy night. More heavy rain in Scotland and Ireland. Mainly dry in other areas and staying breezy. A few showers may affect the far south of England. Broken cloud elsewhere. Lows at -2C in central and northern Scotland, 6 to 8C for other areas.

 
 
 


New Year's Eve
Low pressure crossing east through Scotland early on Tuesday. Breezy with rain across much of England, Wales and southern Ireland. Further rain in central and eastern Scotland. The rain falling as snow over central and northern hills, but some snow starting to fall at lower levels too. Some brighter spells across central and Northern Ireland as well as northwest England. Highs at 1C in central and northern Scotland, 9 to 11C for most.


New Year's Day
A deep area of low pressure crossing west to east through Wednesday. This brings widespread severe gales and a risk of gusts of wind of over 70mph which is enough to cause some damage to trees and buildings. Heavy periods of rain, followed by heavy showers. In Scotland there will be snow, and this is going to be heavy. The snow could extend into northern England by evening before slowly spreading south. Blizzards affect much of central, southern and eastern Scotland with significant snow falls. Highs at 0 to 2C in Scotland, 12C in southern England.
