Warmer towards weekend

A ridge of high pressure to the south on Wednesday with lower pressure to the north. Rain affecting much of Scotland as a front trails west to east. Rain is expected to be persistent and heavy through particularly central regions at first before moving south into southern areas and the Borders. Murky on western coasts and hills with some low cloud shrouding the hills. Drizzle at times here too. Drier across the rest of England and Ireland with variable cloud and sunny spells. Highs at 14 to 19C.

Wednesday Night
Cloudy and wet with patchy rain across the Borders and northern England overnight. Spells of rain gradually moving eastwards across Northern Ireland and Scotland though the far north will remain largely dry. Showers across Wales. Otherwise dry with clear spells. Lows at 7 to 12C.

High pressure to the south of the country with low pressure to the west. Strengthened winds as well as rain, heavy at times, passing through Ireland into Northern Ireland and western Scotland at first, before pushing east and south across northern England and Wales. Staying warm and brighter in southern and eastern England although always a fair amount of cloud. Highs at 15 to 20C.

A broad southwest flow over the British Isles on Friday. Rain across north Wales and northern England will gradually lift northwards through the day as pressure builds. Frequent showers and longer spells of rain across western Scotland where it will be breezy. Dry and fine and feeling mild across southern areas. Highs at 16 to 22C.
