Monday
A cool southwesterly pattern to start the new week, producing sunshine and heavy showers. Bursts of rain will be frequent in western areas, merging into longer spells of rain. Risk of local hail and thunder. Areas of rain for southeast England in the morning too. Eastern England & Scotland starting dry with sunshine, but showers will drift increasingly eastwards through the day. Occasional brighter spells away from showers. Breezy, gusty near showers. Highs 12 to 16C.

Monday night
A developing low moves in from the southwest by evening. Risk of gales for southern coastal districts. Heavy rain setting in for southwest England and south Wales, becoming more extensive over southern England overnight, extending into the Midlands, perhaps northern and eastern counties by dawn. Further north across England and into Scotland it is likely to be dry overnight, after residual daytime showers fade. Light winds and local fog. Lows 3 to 7C north, 6 to 10C south.

Tuesday
An area of low pressure spins eastward across Britain during the day, drifting off into the North Sea later. Rain affects much of England, Wales and southern Scotland, setting in heavily for several hours, plus some heavy or thundery showers forming in places. Some brighter spells. The north and west of Scotland and Northern Ireland likely to be drier with only local showers. Brisk winds, may gust gale force around coasts, particularly in the south. Highs 11 to 15C.

Wednesday
High pressure ridges across southern Britain bringing a bright and fine day with sunny spells in many areas. Best sunshine toward the south and east. Cloud will thicken across the northwest as a warm front moves in, bringing rain to western Scotland as the day progresses, plus patchy drizzly rain for Northern Ireland. A southwesterly wind will strengthen in these areas, whilst winds stay lighter further south. A cool start with some fog patches. Highs 13 to 17C.
