Monday A ridge of high pressure building overnight into Monday morning ahead of fronts moving in from the west. Slight frosts at first. Fair for much of England, Wales and Scotland, but rain quickly into western Scotland and Ireland with low cloud on hills and coasts. This rain spreads east to be into central Scotland, northwest England, Wales, southwest England too by mid-afternoon. Drizzly and murk in Ireland. Drier in eastern England and Scotland, although drizzly rain arriving towards the evening. Highs at 5 or 6C for most, turning milder in Ireland at 11C.
Monday Night A westerly breeze pulls milder Atlantic air into Ireland through the night maintaining mild temperatures. These will gradually warm up the west of Britain. Drizzly rain in the east of England gradually clearing. Occasional patches of drizzle remain in several areas, primarily hills and western coasts. Recurrent showers for western Scotland. Lows of 11C in Ireland, 5 to 7C elsewhere.
Christmas Eve Plenty of cloud and mild conditions to start the day. Some drizzle here and there, mainly over hills and northern and western coasts. Inland areas may see a few brighter spells developing as the day wears on, although always a threat of low cloud and drizzle in the west. More persistent rain may affect western Scotland. Becoming breezy in northwest Scotland. Highs widely at 11 to 12C.
Christmas Day A ridge of high pressure brings broken cloud and a dry day for most of the British Isles. Low cloud and some drizzle could affect western coasts and hills. Calmer winds may facilitate a few fog patches in central and southern areas of England. More cloud and some patchy rain for western Scotland and western Ireland. Breezy northwest Scotland but light winds elsewhere. Highs at 10C in the north, up to 14C south.
