UK Forecast - December 14, 2023
Mild. Cloudy but dry for most.
Windy with rain in northwest.

As a ridge of high pressure extends over much of the country, we should expect generally dry and bright condition across England and Wales. Further north, cloud will be thicker across Northern Ireland and Scotland with frequent shower over the Hebrides and the Northwest Highland as well as Strathclyde, these will merge into a longer spell of rain later and will spread northeast across the Northern Isles in the afternoon. The best of the brightness is expected over Southeast England with occasional sunny spells too. Light winds for most, but strong in northwest Scotland with coastal gales spreading northeast later over the Western and then the Northern Isles. Temperature will rise up to around 10C in Northern Ireland, but up to 8C in Scotland, England and Wales.

Friday Night
Rain from the north will clear through the evening and early night, with only some light rain or drizzle remaining over western and central Highlands. Elsewhere it will be a dry night with some clear spells. Windy in north with gales in exposure, but winds will be fresh elsewhere. A very mild night for the north with minimum temperatures at 10-11C, but it will be cooler across southeast England as the lighter winds and clear spells will result to mins of 5C.

Pattern will remain the same with high pressure to the south of the UK and low pressure to the north. This will give a tight gradient on the isobars, resulting in a strong southwesterly flow across the country. So Saturday will be a rather cloudy day especially away from south and east England, with some rain or drizzle over northwest Scotland. This may get persistent and heavy across Sutherland and Wester Ross in the afternoon and the evening. More rain expected for Northern Ireland and western Scotland overnight, this becoming heavy and persistent over higher ground in western Scotland. Windy in north and west with coastal gales, but just breezy elsewhere. A mild day with maximums of around 10C-11C.

Much of the country remaining fairly dry but rather cloudy, with any chance of sunny spells across southeast England. A wet day over west Scotland with rain becoming heavy and persistent for much of the day. Through the evening this rain will gradually push over northwest England and clear away soon. Northern Ireland will have occasional light rain or drizzle. Still windy in north and west, with coastal gales. Another mild day with temperature rising up to 10C-12C across most parts.
