A breezy but mostly fair start to Monday over much of England and Wakes. Some showers affecting northwest England this morning, but these should fade into this afternoon. Rain in western, central and southern Scotland could be heavy for a time this morning, but should be easing into this afternoon. Northern and eastern Scotland should be drier with broken cloud. Mostly dry in Ireland, although a few spots of rain on western coasts where it is cloudier. This afternoon sees increasing cloud in southern Irland and southwest England with some rain here by evening. Dry and bright for most other areas with the best sunshine in the east, although staying rather cloudy and damp in western and southern Scotland. Becoming wet for a time tonight through Ireland, Wales and much of England as a band of rain pushes north. This rain reaches Northern Ireland and northern England in the early hours, with drier weather, albeit with some heavy showers in the west, arrives in more southern areas of Wales, England and Ireland. Scotland may have some cloud and spots of rain in the west, but overal should be dry and bright. Lows near 1C in eastern Scotland, 6 to 9C in much of England and Wales, 5C in Ireland.
A shallow area of low-pressure will cross the UK on Tuesday morning. This brings rain into northern England and southern Scotland as well as Northern Ireland. The Midlands, Wales and southern England as well as southern Ireland will have sunny spells and scattered showers. Scotland will have cloud and be mostly dry although scattered showers around coasts. A risk of some heavy showers in the afternoon across England and Wales with some showers in western Scotland. Becoming drier in southern Ireland and staying dry in eastern Scotland. Highs at a mild 11C in southern England, cooler in northern England and Scotland at 6 or 7C.
A ridge of high pressure will build across the UK and Ireland for Christmas day. Then maybe some mist and fog patches in the morning but these will clear to leave a fine day with plenty of sunshine. Showers may affect northern and western Scotland. Thick cloud and some rain together with stronger winds affecting western Island later. Highs at 6 to 8C.
