Flooding alerts

Thursday
Thursday is a very wet day with heavy and persistent rainfall expected and windy conditions across eastern, central and northern regions of Scotland, where in places flooding could become an issue. Drier and less windy across England and Wales today, though still expect some patchy rain, occasional heavy bursts too. Much of the rain will clear Northern Ireland during the afternoon. Highs of 11 to 17C north to south.

Wednesday Night
Rain continues to affect eastern into central regions of Scotland as well as northeast England overnight where it will also continue windy and blustery. Outbreaks of rain affecting northern England into central areas, parts of Wales and Northern Ireland. Drier further south. Mild for most with lows at 10 to 13C, though cooler across north and cnetral Scotland.

Friday
A wet day expected for many again on Friday, with heavy and persistent spells of rain especially in the north and east. Where it is largely dry further west it is likely to remain mostly cloudy with limited brightness. Particularly watching a developing low pressure over the eastern Channel which could bring high volumes of rainfall across southeast England especially onwards through Friday, though currently low confidence on this. Even with all this weather it is expected relatively mild further south and west with highs into the upper teens here, a colder 8 to 12C further north and east.

Saturday
The persistent easterly wind keeps a flow of rain pushing on to many eastern coastal counties of both Scotland and England on Saturday, as low pressure tracks northwards up through the North Sea. Brisk and blustery winds also to be expected here. Elsewhere, currently largely dry with lighter winds. A cold day with highs around 8 to 11C.
