Wednesday A dry and bright day overall, with high pressure centred to the west. Plenty of sunshine and well broken cloud. Showers in northern Scotland, falling as snow over the mountains. A few showers may clip coastal districts in eastern England, perhaps also west & north Wales. A brisk north-westerly breeze across north & eastern regions will make it feel cold. Frosty for some at dawn. Top temperatures 8 or 9C north, 10 to 12C south.
Wednesday night Dry for most places overnight. Fronts approaching the far north-west bring cloud and some rain to western Scotland, perhaps patches of drizzle developing on western coasts & hills around the Irish Sea. Clear skies across central, southern & eastern Britain - possible shallow mist & fog patches. A frost likely for many away from the far north-west, temperatures widely dipping close to freezing, or just below zero in rural areas.
Thursday Low pressure to the north-west pushes fronts slowly across northern Britain. Rain on and off much of the day for Scotland & N.Ireland, heaviest over the West Highlands. Cloud will thicken across northern England & Wales, and drizzly rain may develop on western coasts and hills. Dry and bright all day for the Midlands & south, although sunshine will turn hazy. Light winds south, a fresh south-westerly north & west. Highs 9 to 12C.
Friday Low pressure centred over the northern North Sea brings a cool and showery day. Showers most frequent in the west & north, wintry over the mountains. Risk of band of showers also extending across central areas of England & Wales. Mostly cloudy. Occasional sun in eastern counties. A cool breeze. Staying chilly, local frost at dawn in sheltered spots. Daytime temperatures between 8 and 13C.
