Claire: It's a cloudy but mild start to New Year's Eve for many this morning. Near gale to gale force winds affecting the Western and Northern Isles. Expected to remain this way for much of the day with some drizzly rain for western coasts and hills.

Garry: Little change heading into New Year's Eve, with dry, mild and cloudy weather for England & Wales. Some rain for Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Garry: It's another mostly cloudy, mild day. Drizzly rain continues for western Scotland. Damp for western coasts and hills elsewhere. Brightest in the east.

Garry: There's more wind than recent days today. Gusts 40-55mph reported at low levels in north & western areas, stronger over the hills. A lot of cloud, and patchy rain.

Claire: It's a cloudy end to the day for many. Overnight a band of strong wind and rain will move into northern areas. Elsewhere will be cloudy with a few mist and fog patches developing.

Claire: A band of rain is just clearing eastern Scotland and the Northern Isles though showers are following in its wake for much of Scotland and northwest England.

Simon: Plenty of cloud around this morning with some drizzle over western coasts and hills. Staying mild though.

Simon: Rain continuing in western Scotland for a few hours this evening. Some drizzle on western coasts and hills. Mostly dry elsewhere.

Simon: More cloud for Boxing Day, but the quiet weather theme continues, so at least travelling will be straight-forward!

Garry: Merry Christmas!! It's a dull and damp day for most places, with low cloud, fog and some drizzle in the west. A frosty start in the north-east is as close as we will get to a white Christmas this year.

Simon: News has reached us here at the Weatheronline Weather Centre that Father Christmas is on his way! The forecast is for fog in the eastern Midlands and East Anglia as well as parts of southeast England. Misty further west, but some fog in southwest Scotland too. Watch out for Rudolphs nose shining in the fog and shut your eyes if you see it!!! Merry Christmas everyone!!!!

Simon: Still some cloud and spots of drizzle through Ireland, Wales and southwest England this Christmas Eve afternoon. Sunnier and dry to the north and east although some fog and low cloud lingers around the Wash.

Simon: A foggy start to Christmas Eve in the Midlands, East Anglia and southern England. This should be lifting to leave a cloudy day. Better sunshine in Scotland and northern England after an early frost.

Claire: Cooler temperatures are continuing to sink southward over England as the rain band moves further south. Heaviest rain now is over North Wales. The rain will continue to ease through this evening and overnight becoming increasingly confined to the south and southwest.

Claire: The rain over England is starting to ease as the band sinks southward however there are still some heavy bursts for northwestern Wales. Temperatures still very mild to the south ahead of the rain with highs widely at 12 or 13C.

Claire: A band of heavy rain is affecting much of England this morning with the heaviest falls over northern and eastern areas. A sunny but cold start to the day in Scotland.

Claire: Showers continue for many this evening while a heavier, more persistent band of rain is starting to creep into western Ireland. This rain will spread eastward through this evening and tonight leading to a wet start to Sunday for Ireland, Wales and much of England. Clear skies in Scotland overnight will allow for the development of some mist and fog.

Claire: Continuing showery for western areas through this afternoon with some good sunny spells in the south and east.

Garry: Areas of rain will continue to spread across the UK this evening and tonight, breaking up into clusters of showers by Saturday morning. Locally chilly in Scotland, but for most it stays mild.

Simon: Heavy showers crossing central and southern England this morning, these fading. Further showers to come through the day in western and southern areas, but drier in the east.

Simon: Staying wet this afternoon. Heaviest of the rain in western areas. A risk of some short lived local flooding on roads and pavements. Windy too, although these winds should ease from the west through the day.

Simon: Heavy rain int he west this morning, edging steadily eastwards. A wet day for most.

Claire: It's turning increasingly windy this evening in western areas as a cold front edges into Ireland. Strong winds and heavy rain will edge further eastward overnight with rain reaching western fringes of Scotland and Wales by the early morning.

Claire: Some fog patches are lingering this morning but it's a generally dry and bright start to the day everywhere. Some showers moving into Ireland which will continue to move eastward through the day.

Claire: A band of heavy rain continues to work its way eastward across England and Wales. This should ease for most but may linger in the east. Most areas having a dry and cold night.

Claire: Bright and sunny now for many in the east. Some showers lingering over northwestern Scotland while rain continues to fall in the Northern Isles. A band of heavy showers is continuing to make its way eastward across the West Country.

Claire: The remnants of yesterday's weather system is still lingering over the northern part of Scotland this morning bringing further rain and wintry showers. This should clear by the early afternoon. Elsewhere a line of heavy thundery showers is tracking towards South Wales and southwestern England.

Claire: A band of mixed precipitation currently covers most of the British Isles with the exception of western and southern Wales and southwestern England. This will continue to push to the northeast through this evening and overnight. It will remain windy.

Claire: Cloudy with strong winds across the British Isles. A band of rain, snow and freezing rain is currently across Northern Ireland, western Scotland, Wales and southwest England. This will continue to work its way eastward through the afternoon.

Claire: It's windy out there this morning! Peak gusts so far of 62mph for Three, 61mph for Benbecula and 58mph for Kirkwall, Aberporth and Malin Head. Sustained winds are at near gale or gale force for many around the UK and Ireland's coasts.

Sion: Snow flurries continuing to trouble eastern coasts today.

Simon: It's snow-watch time! A few flurries over East Anglia this morning. But it is Saturday which has most attention. Snow over the hills of central Scotland with snow on the leading edge of rain as it moves through the Midlands and northern England, turning back to rain in central areas, although lasting in northeast England and Scotland.

Simon: Staying chilly tonight with a frost where skies clear. Some outbreaks of drizzle and patchy rain to the west.

Claire: The first signs of tonight and tomorrow's low pressure system are starting to show on UK radars - heavy rain approaching the southwest of Ireland. Skies will cloud over from the west through this evening and into tonight. Most of us will wake up to heavy rain tomorrow morning.

Claire: The heaviest of the rain is mainly clearing to the east now though remains for northwestern England and the Orkney Islands. Scattered showers are following behind this over parts of western and central England and western Scotland.

Simon:Conditions are still looking much colder next eek as easterly winds arrive. Some sleet and snow may develop too although details are currently uncertain.

Claire: Heavy rain over Scotland will clear to the northeast this evening. As temperatures drop overnight ice will form on wet roads that are left untreated. Further south it will be windy with showers and rather mild overnight.

Claire: A heavier band of rain is making its way across Ireland now as a low pressure system moves in from the Atlantic. Persistent rain continues for the Western Isles. Elsewhere showers becoming more frequent and widespread through the rest of the day.

Claire: Rain and showers for western areas this morning which are expected to spread eastward through the day becoming more widespread. Some sunny spells should develop between the showers particularly for southern areas.

Claire: It will be a dry but cloudy evening for most as earlier showers have cleared away to the east however a fresh band of cloud and light rain will move in from the west reaching most areas by morning. There could be some heavier bursts of rain in the west.

Claire: The heaviest rain rain should start to clear most areas by the early afternoon to leave some dry, sunny spells. Still a chance of some showers through the afternoon for many.
