Cloudier over in the north and west with rain arriving, much brighter in the east and south

A chilly and fair start for most areas this morning. The best sunshine will be through England and Wales. More cloud in Scotland and Ireland with some rain in the far west of Ireland where it will be breezy too. Cloud increases in Scotland and Wales during the morning with rain edging east through Ireland.

This afternoon the rain reaches into western Scotland and the rest of Ireland with conditions staying windy. Drier and brighter for the rest of England and Wales, the best sunshine in central and southern areas.

Overnight wet and windy conditions pass through Scotland although turning drier here later. Further rain in northern England and the north and west of Wales, some of it heavy. Drier in southern and central England.
