Wet for Scotland & Ireland
Mainly dry central England & Wales

Issued: 0530hrs Monday 5th July 2021
Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson

Rain and gales by tonight in the south

Good morning,

We've still got the leftovers of the weekend's thunderstorms to contend with today, but many places will see a better day on Monday.

Areas of rain will move around slowly across Scotland and Northern Ireland today, persisting for several hours in places, with some heavy and thundery downpours mixed in too, especially in the afternoon. A scattering of showers will also affect northern England in the morning, some heavy bursts, but tending to fizzle out in the afternoon.

The Midlands, Wales and southern England will see a largely dry day with sunny spells, but cloud will thicken later from the southwest ahead of heavy rain setting in by evening, accompanied by winds strengthening to gale force near English Channel coasts.

Today's top temperatures will reach 18 to 22C, warmest in the southeast, but only 13C where rain persists in the north.

Have a great day.
