Morning Call - October 22, 2023
Storm Babet to Retreat.
But Unsettled Weather is our Beat.

Issued: 0530hrs Sunday 22nd October 2023
Duty forecaster: Adam Ryan

Storm Babet weakens and moves away from the British Isles today as a ridge of high pressure builds in from the continent.

Sunday brings a welcome respite from recent stormy conditions. It will be mostly dry, aside from a few showers in Western Scotland and Northwest England filtering in throughout the day on a fresh breeze. Decent sunny spells can be expected for most of England, Northern Ireland, and the Lowlands of Scotland, making it a great day for getting out and about for that autumn walk.

Cloud will thicken in South West England and Wales as a new low moves in from the west. This will bring some patchy rain and light drizzle on southern and western coasts and moors of Wales, Devon, and Cornwall from time to time. Temperatures will be seasonal, with highs between 10C and 15C.

Through the evening and overnight, rain makes its way into Ireland and South West England with moderate accumulations in South East Ireland. Cloud associated with the low will spill over into the rest of England, keeping temperatures above freezing. However, a light frost is possible in rural areas under the clearer skies of bonny Scotland.
