Southerly sizzler
Storms in north

Fresher in the west

Good morning,

It's a scorching hot day ahead over much of England thanks to a plume of southerly air from the continent. The pattern is already breaking down however as a cold front moves in across north and western areas, triggering thunderstorms for some.

Intense downpours are moving over Scotland this morning, frequent lightning and hail in places. Storms will drift away northeastwards into the North Sea by this afternoon, leaving sunnier and fresher conditions moving in from the west.

Lots of strong sunshine for central, south and eastern England, some high cloud for a time further north. A pleasant day with sunny spells for Ireland.

Today's top temperatures soaring into the 30s for central and eastern counties of England, highs around 34C north of London by the afternoon. Nearer 30C for Birmingham, around 25C in Manchester and Cardiff, 23C in central Scotland. Staying uncomfortably warm into tonight for the southeast, whilst fresher air starts to arrive from the west.

Have a great day.
Garry
