Issued: 0530hrs Thursday 9th January 2025
Duty forecaster: Filotas Paschos

Cold with frost

A mostly dry and bright day is expected for most regions, with plenty of sunny spells. After a hard morning frost, temperatures will slowly recover in the afternoon. Coastal areas in northern Scotland will continue to see snow showers, a few of them heavy. Maximum temperatures will reach 3°C in central and southern areas, while remaining around 1°C elsewhere.

Northern snow showers will clear quickly, leaving most areas dry with long clear periods and a widespread hard frost. Some rain may develop over the far southwest later in the night. Minimum temperatures will fall to -2°C in the south, -5°C in the north, and around 3°C in the far southwest. Freezing fog patches are likely to form overnight in England.
