Morning Call - May 31, 2026
Showers west, most fade
Afternoon sun breaks

Issued: 0530hrs Sunday 31st May 2026
Duty forecaster: Dan Graves

An improving day for most areas; showers linger in the Scottish Highlands, a risk of thunderstorms Caithness and northeast Aberdeenshire.

Good morning,

Some heavy showers are affecting the Scottish Highlands this morning, but these will soon pass northward, leaving behind scattered showers for much of the day. Often cloudy here, but with sunny breaks eastward. The day starts cloudy and showery for most areas southward as well, the showers primarily affecting western coastal areas but a few showers slipping further east too. As the day goes, cloud and showers will tend to fade, leaving patchy sunshine for most of England and Wales; showers will ease in Ireland as well, but sunny breaks will be less common here. Highs of around 17C in the north and west, rising to 24C in the south and east.

Overnight, much of central and eastern Britain will be cloud-free. Western coasts will see cloud lingering due to a high pressure ridge pushing moist Atlantic air onto the hills. Cloudier across Ireland, where rain will begin affecting northwestern areas, and then spread more widely from the west through the later overnight hours. The cloud deck ahead of this rain will begin to slip over Scotland and northwest England in the later overnight hours. Lows of 6 to 11C for most, staying near 12C or milder Ireland, particularly west coast.

Enjoy the day!
