Morning Call - December 20, 2019
Outbreaks of rain
Heaviest southwest

Issued: 0530hrs Friday 20th December 2019
Duty forecaster: Claire Darbinyan

Outbreaks of rain affect many today - these heaviest to the southwest. A drier day for eastern Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Good morning,

We have three separate areas of rain affecting the country this morning. A front brings heavy rain into the southeast of England which clears east through the morning. Another front brings heavy showers to south Wales and south-central parts of England through the morning while an area of low pressure centred northwest of Scotland brings showery outbreaks of rain into western Scotland and northwestern Ireland.

Rain spreads across southern England through the afternoon, reaching southeast England through the afternoon while showers merge over western Scotland to give prolonged spells of rain here. A new area of rain arrives to the southwest bringing rain into the far southwest of Ireland and far southwest of the UK too. A drier afternoon for northern England, eastern Scotland and Northern Ireland. High temperatures widely at 5 to 8C, though parts of the southeast and southwest could see highs at 9 or 10C.

Into the evening rain persists for western Scotland and the southwest UK, spreading east along southern coastal counties of England.

Have a good day!

Claire
