Breezy with rain in central and northern Scotland, drier and rather cloudy elsewhere and staying warm for many

The morning brings muggy and overcast conditions to the south of the British Isles. Pulses of rain and drizzle across the south of England. Heavy rain and thick cloud to the south-east, spreading across Wales and the Midlands. Brighter further north, with some sunny spells over eastern Scotland, northern England, and Ireland, bringing a crisp start to the morning.

The afternoon sees continued thick cloud and muggy conditions in the south, with some light drizzle in south-east England but otherwise staying dry. Plenty of sunshine and some outbreaks of cloud across northern England. Scotland becomes slightly more unsettled as the low pressure system moves closer, bringing stronger winds and overcast skies, but remains dry. Cloudy conditions over southern Ireland, with clearer skies in the north. Cooler temperatures in northern England and across Scotland with highs of 11C, and milder conditions in the south, with highs of 19C.

Tonight, rain and drizzle expected in the south of England, which will then turn into heavy rain after midnight, spreading across Wales and the Midlands. The rain could lead to localised flooding here by morning. Southern Ireland will see some rain and drizzle, with heavier rain in Northern Ireland. Also a band of rain moves south through northern Scotland, clearer skies follow to the north. Blustery winds in Scotland as the low pressure system moves across. Chillier temperatures in the north with lows of 4C, and the risk of ground frost. Much milder temperatures of 14C in the south.
