Pulses of heavy rain spreading east

Good morning,

It will feel distinctly cold today in strong westerly winds. Expect lots of heavy showers across the country, merging into longer periods of rain at times.

Squally showery bursts, risk of hail and thunder. Snow over hills in the north - falling to low levels in the Scottish Highlands.

Occasional glimpses of sunshine, mostly in eastern areas. Strong winds will reach gale force in exposure around coasts and hills, particularly in west & south.

Todays's top temperatures will reach 10 to 12C in the south, 7 to 9C for northern England & Wales, 5 to 7C in Scotland & Northern Ireland. Where exposed to the wind, it will feel closer to freezing.

Frost and ice will form tonight in sheltered northern areas. Chilly and unsettled weather will continue through Friday and the weekend, with further heavy rain, gales and possible snow for some by Sunday.

Have a great day.
Garry
