Issued: 0530hrs Tuesday 20th February 2024
Duty forecaster: Simon Keeling

Lots of cloud, rain in the west with fog on hills and coasts in the west and south, brighter Scotland and Ireland this afternoon

Plenty of cloud around this morning with low cloud and drizzle affecting western and southern coasts and hills together with fog on hills. Thicker cloud and rain in western Scotland and western Ireland slipping slowly east. Feeling mild for all and breezy, except in the south.

This afternoon sees the rain band slipping into northern England and Wales. Heavy showers follow to western Scotland but for eastern Scotland and Ireland it will be drier and sunnier too. Staying cloudy for the remainder of England and Wales, again with low cloud, mist and some drizzle over southern coasts and hills.

Overnight yet more rain arrives in Ireland, western and southern England and Wales, this turning heavy and bringing gales in the west as well. Drier and cloudy for Scotland for much of the night, but rain in the southwest later.
