Squally winds at first, then dry and bright but some heavy rain in the south later
Squally winds early this morning across much of England and Wales. Heavy showers in northern England and southern Scotland, sweeping east quickly. Further showers in northern and western Scotland. Dry for other areas, good spells of sunshine in eastern and southern areas as well as Ireland.
The winds easing this afternoon. Cloud increasing in Ireland, Wales and southern England with rain into southern Ireland, Wales and southwest England. This rain turning heavy as it affects much of England and Wales overnight. Drier and brighter for Scotland and northern England with sunny spells although further showers in northern and western Scotland.
That rain brings the risk of some local flooding tonight in southern Wales and parts of the southern Midlands and southern England. Further showers in northern and western Scotland as well as northwest Ireland. Drier elsewhere with clearer skies.
