Duty forecaster: Matthew Hugo
Conditions remain very varied across Europe as wet and windy weather develops across the UK, while very warm and thundery weather continues elsewhere.
Into Wednesday and a ridge of high pressure will topple down across the UK, France and into Spain and Portugal to bring about a drier and more settled day of weather, despite still some scattered showers for parts of France in particular. However, later in the day increasingly wet and windy weather will develop across parts of the UK with near gales in places. A region of distrubed weather will continue to move eastwards across parts of Italy and into some eastern regions of Europe where severe storms and longer spells of heavy rain is possible. Mainly dry weather is, however, forecast across Norway, Sweden and Finland despite some afternoon showers and rather cool here as well. Much of the Med will maintain very warm and humid conditions with some sunshine, but atmospheric pressure remains rather low so a scattering of heavy and thundery showers are possible from Italy eastwards.
During Thursday and low pressure situated to the north of Scotland brings a cool and very windy weather to the UK with showers, something not experienced for some considerable time and this area of low pressure will also push wet and windy weather into Norway through the day. A region of drier and sunnier weather is forecast to extend north-eastwards from Spain into parts of France and through towards Germany, but more northern areas of France will turn cloudier and cooler later in the day. The remainder of Europe is set to maintain rather low pressure but also with very warm and humid conditions. As a result further heavy and thundery downpours are forecast across Italy in particular, along with surrounding countries and some perhaps hot weather forecast across Greece and Turkey but with some heavy and severe thundery downpours possible here during the afternoon too.
