Heabvy rain in much of central Europe, drier to the south and north


Thursday
Generally low pressure affects central Europe with extensive areas of rain and thundery downpours stretching from northern Spain and France to the Alps, northern Italy and many central-eastern countries including Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Poland.
Hit and miss bursts of rain for northern Germany, Denmark and the Low Countries, with some dry weather in central Germany. Southern Spain and Portugal stay dry and hot with sunshine. Also dry for the far south of Italy and Sicily, plus Greece, western Turkey and Black Sea coasts.
East to northeasterly winds prevail across Scandinavaia, with high pressure centred toward the northwest. Mainly dry for Norway, Sweden and Finland. Breezy around the Baltic. Some showers for the Baltic states.

Friday
Heavy rain in the northwest of Spain on Friday with rain in northern Portugal too. The rest of Spain and southern Portugal should be dry with sunny spells. Bright and mainly dry in the western and central Mediterranean. Italy should have a fair day with lots of sunshine. Greece will be dry with sunshine too, although some heavy thunderstorms affect central and northern Turkey.
Unsettled for France, but muggy with thundery rain in central areas and some thunderstorms too affecting western coasts. The Low Countries will be muggy with scattered showers. A risk of thundery rain in eastern Germany, but mostly dry elsewhere. Poland will have heavy, thundery rain in the south, a few showers to the north. Hungary should be mainly dry and hot, whilst Austria and Switzerland will be dry with sunny spells.
Breezy in Denmark with some sunshine here. Fair too for the Baltic States where it stays windy. Finland will be fine with lots of warm sunshine. The fine weather continues in much of Sweden and Norway, lots of sunshine here but breezy in the south.
